Beauty Looks Like—Kanita McGahee

Kanita McGahee

Meet Kanita McGahee, whose passion and life purpose is simply striving to be the BEST person she can possibly be to herself and to others.

As we continue Black History Month celebrating beauty, we invited Kanita to take us through her personal journey in discovering “Beauty looks like ME!”

What does beauty look like to you? Beauty looks like believing in yourself no matter what!

Kanita McGahee Quote

Tell us your journey to seeing beauty within yourself: I have to admit, even as an adult, I am still working on believing in myself. It took a long time for me to learn to trust the God-given voice within me, to be my own cheerleader, and to be an advocate for myself. Growing up, I developed the role of peacemaker. I did what I needed to do to try to keep the peace and not ruffle any feathers. In so doing, I lost my own voice. I allowed myself to believe things that people said about me. One person was my high school guidance counselor who told me I didn’t have what it takes to go to college. In fact, he basically suggested that I wasn’t college material at all. I had to learn to follow my voice and believe that I can trust God to get me there. Today, I am confidently declaring, Beauty Looks Like Believing in Yourself!

What would you tell your 15-year-old self about what beauty looks like: Beauty looks like following your dreams and listening to the voice of God inside of you. You have a purpose and call for your life. You may have detours, setbacks and challenges, BUT you will also have success and victories. The path to your dreams will not always be swift or easy, but if you keep believing in yourself, YOU WILL GET THERE!
