Beauty Looks Like—Tara Brown
Introducing Tara Brown, Director of Media Relations for INSP & INSP Films and national touring Standup Comedian.
Life can be heavy at times, and we all are dealing with different issues. As a standup comedian, if Tara can make people laugh and help them forget about their problems, for at least a little while, that makes her happy. She also has a passion for clean comedy and wants to show people that you can enjoy the humor that is devoid of profanity, vulgarity or innuendos. Nothing gives Tara greater joy than watching families come to her show and kids are enjoying the same humor as their parents.
As we continue showcasing beauty through the faces, stories and backgrounds of beautiful African American women, we invited Tara to share her personal journey in discovering “Beauty looks like ME!”
What does beauty look like to you? Beauty is kindness, it's respect, it's treating people how you want to be treated.
Tell us your journey to seeing beauty within yourself: Like many others, I deal with self-doubt, and wonder if I am enough, or sometimes if I'm too much. I then have to remind myself that God has uniquely made me, and that I'm not going to water myself down to make people comfortable around me. If I'm too much for certain people then those aren't my people, and I have made my peace with that.
What would you tell your 15-year-old self about what beauty looks like: Don't get caught up in surface level beauty because looks change. Also, don't let people define your beauty and your worth. Over the course of your life, beauty will look different to you and take on new meaning. Respect the process and enjoy the journey.
Join Hiz Temple throughout the month of February as we celebrate Black History Month by showcasing beauty through the faces, stories and backgrounds of beautiful African American women. Our goal is to empower and inspire young black and brown girls to have a healthy response to the question “what does beauty look like?”
